Blood Disorders (Anemia, etc.)

Blood disorders are medical conditions that affect the components of blood—red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, or plasma. One of the most common blood disorders is anemia, a condition in which the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to tissues. This can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, and dizziness. Anemia can be caused by iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, chronic diseases, or genetic conditions such as thalassemia and sickle cell anemia.

Other blood disorders include leukopenia (low white blood cell count), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), and hemophilia, a bleeding disorder caused by the lack of clotting factors. These conditions may be inherited or acquired and can lead to increased risk of infections, bruising, or prolonged bleeding.

Diagnosis is made through blood tests like complete blood count (CBC), iron studies, and bone marrow analysis. Treatment depends on the specific disorder and may include iron supplements, vitamin therapy, blood transfusions, or medications to boost blood cell production. Early detection and proper management of blood disorders are crucial to prevent complications and improve quality of life.
